Injustice

My story isn't about race
But my tragedy at a horrible place
Where my only child was shot in the face

It happened September 2016
A terrifying guy just so mean
Not an adult but a teen

O'Juvert festival wild no structure
Suppose to be a celebration of culture
Is where this kid ended Tiarah future

The trial didn't go too well
I told my daughter’s killer to go to hell
This put my family through a horrible spell

Jury read.. "Criminal Negligence Homicide"!
The tears fell from my eye
And I thought I just died!

The verdict should've read murder one
This guy think he's won
Its like a slap to my face I was done

Even the judge knew the jury was wrong
1-4 years for murder is wrong
In the end I just have to be strong

This injustice is not over still
I'm a fighter I have a strong will
I asked my senator to pass a bill

So that this will never happen again
Not to another family THEY WILL WIN!
Gun violence has to come to an end.

Community advocate from Brooklyn, NY. My daughter Tiarah Poyau was murdered 3 years ago at the Pre Labor Day Parade called O'Juvert. Right now there's a lot going on in terms of crisis. Pandemic, unemployment and gun violence on the rise that makes everyone vulnerable especially financially.
