Five Long Years
Theresa Williams
It’s been five long years
But in someways it feels like yesterday
Time elapsed quicker than a rushing tornado
I mourned for the friends that I lost
And I moaned for this unbearable pain
My heart was broken beyond repair
I needed therapy and time to heal
From the brokenness that was unfamiliar to me
I had to learn to embrace my new normal
While the memories linger
In midst of the pandemic tragedy, we found resilience and faith
Have we learned the lessons of unpreparedness
Will we be ready if another pandemic sweeps through our land?
The uncertainties are what keeps me up at night
Five years later
