Micah Harris (Alumnus)

A Black man with a mustache and long black beard speaks into a microphone held in front of him. He wears a red snapback, sweatshirt, and black frame glasses.

Micah was born and raised in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and spent most of his free time playing baseball and basketball throughout his youth. At 1am on August 16th, 1999, at the age of 19, Micah and his friend Max were shot while stopped at a redlight. The shooters were after Max who two months earlier had shot one of them. Max was shot once and died; Micah was shot five times and lived. Currently an aspiring poet and motivational speaker, Micah hopes to change the youth’s lives through poetry and stories from his life experiences. In his free time, Micah likes to lift weights and read crime dramas. His poetry has been published in Wheeling & Healing: A Poetry Anthology Edited by OPEN DOORS Reality Poets.
